This course provides the student: ·A basic understanding of management-science models and methodologies. General mathematical models will be presented along with specialized software for problem solution. Particular
emphasis is placed on formulating and solving real-world models. ·A practical problem-solving framework, based on scientific principles, which consists of: problem definition, specifying assumptions, mathematical
modeling, model verification, data collection, problem solution, what-if analysis, and implementation. ·Experience in developing plans for managing operations. Some plans are long-term, such as determining the flight
schedule for an airline or the assignment of sailors to Navy ships. Others may be operational, such as determining the shortest path to route packets across the Internet from your computer to a server located in Seattle.
Such planning models provide insight about the operations themselves. ·Skills in using computer-based solution methods for optimization, simulation, and statistical analysis.
