For students admitted to the 4+1 Program, up to nine (9) SCH of graduate courses (7000-level and above) may be applied towards the student’s undergraduate program requirements.
Admission Requirements
For admission to the 4+1 Program, the student must:
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate program in the Lyle School of Engineering,
- Have achieved junior-level status,
- Apply no later than one year prior to the time they would graduate with a B.S. degree,
- Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher,
- Have three letters of recommendation, one from the student’s academic advisor and two from other faculty members in Lyle Engineering, and
- Be accepted into the desired M.S. program.
Masters Degree Requirements
To receive a masters degree under the 4+1 Program, the student must:
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the M.S. degree course work (including the graduate course work applied towards the undergraduate degree requirements),
- Complete a minimum of 21 term-credit hours of graduate course work at SMU beyond the undergraduate residency requirement to satisfy the graduate residency requirement, and
- Have satisfied all other requirements for the B.S. and M.S. degrees.
